Fortifying Through Seeking

As I was preparing for this night of prayer, the Lord put it on my heart that the “church”, that is all of us, needs to have a heart to seek the Lord.  That is the kind of “seeking” that helps us find Him.  It’s not that God is lost, but He wants us to have an interest in Him.

HIDE AND SEEK

Proverbs 25:2 (NKJV)
2It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

When my son Trae was little, he would want to play hide and seek in the house.  He was an only child and I was his only playmate.  There were times that I was frazzled and really needed to get some things done.  So, I would agree to play hide and seek.  He would hide and I would take my sweet time finding him. That’s not very nice is it?  Just the desperate cry of a tired mom!

Unfortunately, we can get half-hearten about seeking God.  It is easy to get in the habit of being distracted and seeking after everything but God.  I have sat across my desk with many people over the years that had finally come to the conclusion in their trouble that “all they could do now is pray.”  My question would be, “Why is prayer and seeking God last line of defense and not first?  It is important to pray for the church (us) that we can have the determination to seek God.

WHY IS DETERMINATION NEEDED?

Because God is concealing things and waiting for us to be hungry enough to come and find Him.  Jesus concealed things in parables and waited for someone to come and ask Him what they meant.  God gives freely…to the hungry.  Seeking is a natural product of hunger.  If I am hungry, I will look for food.

THE PRAYER MEETING WAS DEVOTED TO THIS TOPIC

That is why this entire prayer meeting was devoted to praying over our ability to “seek” God.  We made our case from God’s word about seeking Him. We came into agreement that the church would benefit from the Holy Spirit’s help in the process of seeking Him.  Then we just soaked in it for a while.

If you decide to pray with me, put your name, your family’s names, and your church in the appropriate places.  This will help you fortify in the area of seeking the Lord.

1 Chronicles 16:11 (NKJV)
11Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore!

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
33But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

I hope you will take this journey with me!

Blessings,
lisa

Fortifying Prayer: Hunger and Desire Towards the Father

As I was praying about the prayer time on Monday night, I heard the Holy Spirit give me the topic of being hungry for God.  That also included having a desire for God.

IF PEOPLE ARE IN CHURCH, DON’T THEY HUNGER FOR GOD?

Not everyone that goes to a church has a true hunger for God.  People may have a myriad of reasons, other than hunger, for attendance.  Sometimes it is the place of meeting people.  Sometimes it is just what the family has always done.  Maybe it is just the “Christian” call to duty.  It is easier, than we would like to believe, to clock in and mark time.  When we are not hungry, we have little desire for the things of God.

Proverbs explains it this way.

Proverbs 27:7 (NKJV)
7  A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

When you are full, not even the thing you would ordinarily love sounds good.  When you are really hungry…or starving, you will eat out of a dumpster.

I’m not looking to eat out of a dumpster but I do want a really hungry heart!

HOW HUNGRY IS HUNGRY?

Have you ever been asked if you were hungry?  What did you say?  As we start the prayer time, we take a look at our response to natural hunger.  Sometimes naturally, what we think is real hunger, isn’t.  It is the same spiritually.  We are not aware that we are not hungry.  Prayer will help us because, “We don’t know, what we don’t know!”.

THERE IS A LOT OF COMPETITION FOR OUR ATTENTION

I guess you have noticed that by now.  Every advertisement on every medium is created to draw our affections.  But the baubles that come after us successfully are things that make up the natural building blocks of life.

Matthew 13:22 (NKJV)
22  Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

Who can truly escape the cares of this world since we live in it?  By the grace of God…and prayer!

SO, WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO?

We need to fortify the church in this area through prayer over this area of hunger.  True hunger will prioritize our lives and goals.  He will help us!

I hope you will pray along with me.  Use your name, your family’s names and your church’s name.  Speak God’s Word with me over your life.  Let’s fortify though prayer over hunger!

Blessings,
lisa
